The Fortnite World Cup- 30 Million Reasons To Watch

The biggest Fortnite tournament so far kicks off this weekend, and there’s $30 million up for grabs. To add to the grandiose nature of the event, it’s being held at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City. The venue holds up to 23,000 people and is the annual host of the US Open (tennis).

With a prize pool surpassing even The International (Dota2), Epic Games is throwing down the gauntlet, putting together the biggest names in gaming with the most massive cash reward ever offered in a video game competition. Along with the solos and duos, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Marshmello will team up once again to see if they can combine for another win in the Fortnite Pro-Am event.

Here’s how you can keep up with everything going on this weekend.

An awesome new feature that Epic just introduced is picture-in-picture. While you’re building or gunning your enemies down, you’ll be able to watch what’s happening in the World Cup on the same screen on which you’re playing.

When to watch

Depending on what’s most interesting to you, Epic has scheduled four events that will take place over the weekend, so that everyone has something to watch. When the tournament gets underway at 1PM ET on Friday, eight teams will be looking to take their share of $3 million in the Creative Finals.

Following that, at 4PM ET, will be the Celebrity Pro-Am. Ninja, Dr. Lupo, and Nick Mercs are just a few of the big names from the gaming community. NBA star, Aaron Gordon and WWE star, Xavier Woods will be teaming up with streamers and YouTubers to see which pair can knock Ninja and Marshmello off of the mountain.

On Saturday, things get more serious. Fifty pairs of highly-skilled players, who made it through and extensive qualifying process will battle it out. Starting at 1PM ET, players representing some of the biggest esports organizations in the world will take their shot at becoming the Duos champions.

Sunday is the day on which many debates will be put to bed. A who’s who of professional players will go at it in the Solo tournament. That one starts at 1PM ET.

With a truckload of money waiting to be grabbed, you can expect some great Fortnite action this weekend in the Big Apple.
