After years of mediocre performance, Amumu finally got some useful buffs to become a solid champion. Here’s what you need to know about him.
Patch 9.8 changes made Amumu much more fluid. It affected his key ability, Bandage Toss. The cooldown was decreased from 16/14/12/10/8 to 12/11/10/9/8 seconds. Imagine adding 40% Cooldown Reduction on top of the new numbers!
However, it’s not just about the damage. Previously, a long-range Bandage Toss tether broke after one second. It was a death sentence for Amumu: no way to root people with R, no way to deal damage. Now, Amumu always reaches the target with whom he connected his Bandage Toss.
Oh, and there’s a small passive damage buff as well. Cursed Touch now deals 10% extra damage instead of 13%.
Item buffs work in Amumu’s favor, too. Most importantly, the devs fixed an oversight from 9.7 and finally applied the Cinderhulk damage increase (300% instead of 200%). It solves Amumu’s key weakness: a bad first clear.
Thornmail received a huge boost as well. Grievous Wounds now last 3 seconds instead of just one. Killing the enemy ADC is one of Amumu’s primary objectives, and negating their lifesteal certainly makes it easier.
A modern Amumu requires modern solutions. This is mostly about his skill order. E is still maxed out first, but then you should be going for Q instead of W. Trust me, the extra damage from W would benefit you less than the Spider-Man level of mobility.
